Fed up of inefficient gloves and socks to keep your extremities warm in the winter? These self-warming gloves and insoles are ideal for anyone who suffers with the cold.

Innovated by Zonda and Astec, the accessories are completely battery free, using unique fabric to generate a gentle warming sensation. They take a few moments to heat up and they stay warm even when they’re wet.

There’s no end of life to the heating mechanism, apart from when the insoles and gloves come to the end of their life (pesky holes or the suchlike)

The gloves can be used with your smartphone, thanks to touchscreen pads that trigger the screen’s cells to react and they have a grip finish so can be used for safe driving or operating machinery outside without the fear of slips.

The insoles can be cut to any size shoe, just like any other shoe insole and are extremely lightweight, meaning your feet won’t be weighed down even further.

The material was actually developed by the German military and is being used by a number of big corporations including aeroplane manufacturer Airbus.

For those interested in the technology behind Zondo’s insoles and Astec’s gloves, they use heat-reflecting fleece to raise and maintain your body temperature. The polymer metal-coated fibres mean the heat circulates round your entire hand or foot.

Zondo and Astec have listed their self-warming accessories on Kickstarter. They’ve already exceeded their targets to raise £10,000, with the total standing at £23,702 at the time of writing. There’s 25 days to go on the campaign and it has so far attracted attention from 369 backers.

You can get your hands (excuse the pun) on the Astec self-heating gloves for £35, while a pair of Zondo’s insoles will cost £25 by themselves or £35 with a pair of Zondo booties.
