Toilet brushes. The most disgusting invention of bathroom hygiene ever invented. They’re riddled with bacteria, even if kept visually clean and in public toilets, such as restaurants or hotels, they’re even more offensive.

What’s even worse is if you’re giving your bog a good old scrub to find the handle separates from the main brush unit and you have to somehow reattach while avoiding the splashes of faeces-spotted water. It makes us gag just thinking about it.

That’s why we were so relieved to hear about the Loogun, as promoted on Kickstarter. It replaces the toilet brush with a super-clever innovation that will clean your toilet just as well, without a bristle in sight.

The UK invention replaces the brush with a jet of water, designed for cleaning above and below the waterline of your loo. It doesn’t use chemicals so is safe around children and pets and will even get rid of water stains if you use it once a week to clean the toilet.

Because it never touches the toilet, there’s no bacteria harboured on the stick-like device and four AA batteries that the manufacturer claims can last up to 270 washes operate it. The water comes from a reservoir that will last up to six washes and detaches for easy filling.

You can get your (nice and clean) hands on the Loogun from Kickstarter for £27 (unfortunately the early bird offer of £23 has sold out) or if you have multiple bathrooms, you can buy two for £50. Other multiples are available for palaces and the campaign ends on Sunday 9th August with shipping in January next year.
