Litelok’s lightweight bike lock Kickstarter campaign ends today, although it’s already surpassed its target, raising more than 1,000 times its goal of £20,000.

This is no ordinary bike lock though. The Litelok removes the bulk and heaviness of traditional chained-based locks, without losing the security your bike needs. It weighs less than a kilogram and snaps securely shut without the need for a key, making it even more secure than a padlock or mainstream locks.

Professor Neil Barron, Litelok’s founder said: “By harnessing the unique security properties of multiple innovative lightweight materials we created a composite strap called Boaflexicore. Each layer provides additional security, meaning it can withstand sustained attack from tools like cable cutters, bolt croppers and hacksaws.”

Barron has a background in aerospace engineering, so it’s no surprise this is one sophisticated piece of kit. The lock hasn’t just been designed for use with a bike though. Because it’s so flexible, it can fit around a huge array of objects including tree trunks, lamp posts, concrete posts, fencing, railings and sign posts. It will also fit easily in your backpack for storage.

The Litelok is available in a number of colours and designs including Crow Black, Boa Green and Herringbone black and white. Although the early bird deals have all been snapped up, you can be second in line if you hurry and head to Kickstarter now.

You can snap up the Litelok from Kickstarter for £80 and you’ll receive it in August. You’ll also receive two Litelok keys and two WrapStraps.
