The Kiband children’s smart wristband has just reached its crowdfunding target, raising a mere $70 above its $25,000 target via flexible funding.

Kiband connects to a parent’s smartphone via Bluetooth and fits snugly around a child’s wrist, ensuring you always know where they are, without the risk of the band falling off.

You can set custom distances for a youngester to roam via the application and these can vary depending on where you are. For example, if you’re ina  supermarket, it can have a shorter distance set in comparison to if you’re in a park.

As the child approaches the distance, your child will get a vibration from the wristband, encouraging them to find the accompanying parent or guardian. Additionally, if the little one moves outside of the area, both the guardian and child will hear an alarm sound, alerting them to find the child easily.

If the Kiband is ever submerged in water, an alert will tell the guardian so they can react quickly and safely and only the parent or guardian of a child can unlock the wristband from a child’s wrist using their smartphone with the free Kiband app, making it ultra-safe.

The app can be set up to adhere to a routine with favourite locations appearing when the app is fired up, or it can be configured for new locations – for example if you go on holiday or have a day out at the zoo.

The campaign on IndieGogo allowed those who wanted to get their hands on the device first to pick it up for a special price of $89 or two for $169, with either one or two plush toys (depending on which package you signed up for).  The recommended retail price of the Kiband will be $120 and it’s due to arrive with first adopters from July 2015.
