Forget a smart bike, Connected Cycle has launched smart pedals that attach to your bike and track your bike ride with a specially developed app.

The brightly coloured pedal attaches to your bike and connects to your smartphone via GSM and GPS. There’s a SIM card in the pedal itself, so even if you don’t have a Wi-Fi or GPS connection, it will be able to track your bike’s location at all times.

The pedal records route, speed curve, incline curve, and calories burned on every single trip. All of this data is automatically sent to the cloud and syncs with your phone in real time so you’ll always know how well you’ve done on your bike ride straight away.

Not only will Connected Cycle track your bike rides, it’ll also alert you with a phone vibration if your bike is stolen without using any battery from your phone at all. If you forgot where you parked your bike, the Connected Cycle app will help you find it again.

Connected Cycle says on its Indiegogo page: “The smart pedal is totally autonomous generating its own energy from the pedalling and uses its own Internet connection working in US and UE. You don’t need to pay any fee, everything is included for the Indiegogo backers, even the pedal specific data plan, for the pedal lifetime!”

The Connected Cycle pedal is available for $129 (£85) if you’re an early bird, but if you’re too slow, the pedal kit will cost $149 (£98). Shipping is predicted to start in December.

The Connected Pedal campaign ends on Indiegogo in the last week of May, so act fast and be one of the first to get your hands on this ingenious invention.
